VSAC's Scott Giles elected to Federal Advisory Committee

"For the first time in its 20-year history, the federal government's Advisory Committee on Student Financial Assistance is going to be led by a representative of a student-loan company," The Chronicle of Higher Education reports. "Members of the committee, which describes itself as 'an independent source of advice and counsel to Congress and the secretary of education on student financial-aid policy,' today elected Scott A. Giles of the Vermont Student Assistance Corporation as their new chairman for the coming year. His term begins Wednesday. Mr. Giles serves as vice president for policy, research, and planning at Vermont Student Assistance, a nonprofit student-loan provider."

Cathy McCullough, 2007 VASFAA Person of the Year

At the 2007 summer conference, Cathy McCullough, Director of Financial Aid at Vermont Technical College, was honored as the VASFAA Person of the Year.  Cathy has been active in VASFAA ever since her early days in financial aid.  She has served as Treasurer, Secretary and President, chaired and co-chaired numerous VASFAA committees, including the 1999 VASFAA 30 year anniversary celebration and Federal Relations, and has been an active member of the VASFAA conference committee for many years.  Cathy served on the Financial Aid Division Advisory Committee (FADAC) of the College Board’s New England Regional Assembly, was Vermont’s EASFAA State Representative during her tenure as VASFAA president, has been a gracious host for Department of Education training workshops at the VTC campus, and coordinates an annual scholarship dinner at VTC honoring and connecting scholarship recipients and donors.  Congratulations!

Make your Opinions Known

We encourage all financial aid administrators to become familiar with the provisions of the Reauthorization and Reconciliation legislation currently before Congress and to contact the Vermont delegation to let them know the impact of any new or revised provisions on their institution.

Dino Koff elected as EASFAA President-Elect!

In yet another demonstration of Vermont's leadership in the financial aid community, Dino Koff, Director of Admissions and Financial Aid at Vermont Law School, has been voted in as EASFAA President-Elect.

Dino's regional and national leadership in financial aid, demonstrated in particular with the flawless delivery of the 2006 EASFAA conference in Burlington, were the likely key factors in this move by the EASFAA membership.

Congratulations!
